This best Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread is soft, moist, tender, and very easy to make in one bowl! It tastes almost like a chocolate cake, and the recipe can easily be made gluten-free too!
Best Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe
I‘m so excited to share this recipe with you guys, because, I’m not lying when I say this is the BEST Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread I’ve ever made! I‘m very happy that one of the most beloved recipes here on my blog is my classic vegan banana bread. It’s awesome that so many of you have loved changing it up by adding chocolate into it. I really love this idea, but I think when you make it with chocolate, there need to be some changes from my classic recipe. Changes that make it softer and moister! So I came up with the idea to create the perfect recipe. One which is soft, rich and very chocolatey! Finally, here it is!
The perfect breakfast and dessert!
Have I mentioned how much I love banana bread and chocolate? Well, in case I haven’t, let me just say that I really do! One great thing about Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread is that it’s healthier than chocolate cake, even though it almost tastes like vegan chocolate cake. So it’s the perfect sweet treat for any time of the day! I really love making it in advance and keeping it in the fridge for the following days so that I always have a quick and yummy snack on hand. But to be honest, it never lasts that long in my kitchen, because it’s too delicious not to eat all of it! Starting by enjoying it for breakfast, then later as an afternoon dessert with ice cream on top and maybe also before going to bed as a late night snack with extra peanut butter, haha!
How to make Vegan Banana Bread
Another great thing about this recipe is that it’s very easy to make! All you need is one bowl, a spoon, a fork, and a few simple ingredients! You don’t even need a food processor, mixer or blender! Actually, the batter is mixed together in less than 5 minutes, depending on how long you need to peel the bananas maybe, haha – okay, just joking! But I‘m not joking when I say that it really is very quick and easy to make!
As I mentioned before, we need only a few ingredients! Just flour, cocoa, baking powder, ripe bananas, sugar (or another sweetener), oil, non-dairy milk, vanilla extract, and dairy-free chocolate chips for the topping. Anyways, the chocolate chips are not necessary for this recipe but if you’re like me, you can never have enough chocolate!
This Best Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread is:
- Vegan
- Egg-free
- Dairy-free
- Soft
- Moist
- Rich
- Chocolatey
- Easy & quick to make
- made with only a few ingredients
- Tastes like a healthier chocolate cake
- The perfect breakfast, dessert or snack
Can I make gluten-free Banana Bread?
If you want to make a gluten-free Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread, you can substitute a gluten-free flour blend 1:1. If you can’t find it in a store or online shop, you can also use gluten-free oat flour or make your own oat flour. Simply put gluten-free oats into a food processor or grinder and process into oat flour. Just keep in mind that when using oat flour, your vegan banana bread will not be as soft as when you use a lighter flour. Honestly, I haven’t tried using other flours yet, but feel free to try it. I recommend adjusting the liquid and adding more non-dairy milk if needed because different types of flour absorb less or more liquid.

Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread

Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour or spelt flour (160g) or sub gluten-free flour*
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder (50g)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 very ripe large bananas
- 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp non-dairy milk (100ml)
- 1/3 cup oil (75g)
- 1/2 cup sugar (115g) or to taste
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- Chocolate Chips for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350˚F (175˚C). Grease and line a 9-inch loaf pan with parchment paper so that there is an overhang on both sides.
- Place the flour, cornstarch, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl and whisk together.
- Mash the bananas with a fork. Add to a measuring jar along with the non-dairy milk, oil, sugar, vanilla extract and apple cider vinegar. Stir well to combine.
- Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
- Fill the batter into the prepared pan. Optionally, sprinkle over chocolate chips. Bake for about 40-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. (If you want moist banana bread, make sure not to overbake it.)
- Let cool completely in the pan. Then using the parchment paper to remove it.
- Slice and enjoy!
Notes
- To make this banana bread gluten-free, I recommend using a gluten-free flour blend 1:1.
- If using another flour, such as oat flour or whole grain flour, keep in mind that your banana bread won’t get as fluffy and soft as when using a lighter flour. Also, please make sure to adjust the liquid by adding more non-dairy milk, if needed, because different flours absorb different amounts of liquid.
- You can use any sweeteners you like, such as maple syrup, agave syrup, coconut sugar or other.

I made this with my son for a school project, the whole family enjoyed! I ate mine with Oatly custard, it was delicious!
This is such a brilliant recipe. I added 1/4th cup of orange juice to the recipe because my dough seemed too thick. It turned out so so good!!

Eines meiner liebsten Bananenbrot-Rezepte. ♥ DANKE // One of my favorite banana bread recipes. ♥ THANK YOU
Das freut mich sehr, liebe Lena! 🙂
Ich danke dir für dein Feedback!
LG, Bianca <3
Very tasty! I realize that the bananas I used probably fall into the “medium” category rather than “2 large”, because the texture did turn out a bit more crumbly than I’d like… but my gut tells me that if I just use 3 med. bananas next time (And maybe some walnuts) that it’ll be perfect. 🙂
Hi Erin,
Yes, 3 medium bananas would be better! 😀
Love the addition of walnuts! 🙂
Best, Bianca <3
Thank you! And I don’t feel like I said enough about how good the bread is!! In spite of my small ingredient miscalculation it’s still so tasty and chocolatey— still a good texture, very light and soft. It’s been good for breakfast with coffee, a snack, and dessert. 🙂
I am so happy that you love this bread so much!
Thanks for your wonderful words! 🙂
Much love, Bianca <3
This is a beautiful recipe and turned out very well. I only cooked for 40mins.

Bianca, it was the softest, moistest and yummiest choco banana banana bread. I additionally added walnuts and melted dark chocolate because I like it more chocolaty. Thanks for the recipe 🙂
So glad you love this recipe! Thank you so much! 🙂
I love everything about this recipe! So moist and superb chocolatey flavor without overpowering the banana. Added some chopped walnuts for some crunch. Bonus: It made the whole house smell heavenly!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much! 🙂
Bianca 🙂
Amazing and simple recipe.
Thank you! 🙂
Absolutely amazing!
I switched out the flour for an almond flour and the oil for a coconut oil and they turned out amazing. Much sweeter than I though but still delicious! This recipe is a must and it was so easy.

I’m not vegan but I LOVE to experiment with vegan baking and let me just tell you this banana bread is PERFECT! All I had was two medium bananas so I had to add some extra water to thin the batter, but it still turned out awesome! And it tastes heavenly!
So glad you love this recipe! Thank you so much for your great feedback!
Best, Bianca <3
I love to bake and with my mum being Vegan and myself turning to more meat/dairy free options, I wanted to experiment with vegan baking recipes. I found this fab recipe by Bianca and immediately knew I needed to make it. It’s amazing, my mums favourite new cake and she couldn’t believe it was vegan! Myself and my little girl love it too so whenever we have over ripe bananas guess what we will be making?! Thanks Bianca we look forward to trying out more of your recipes!
This recipe is just perfect to use up bananas! So glad everyone loved it! Thank you so much for your great feedback! 🙂
This chocolate banana bread is so delicious 😋 Also the recipe is very easy & quick to prepare. Plus, it’s a good way to use very ripe bananas. I am personally addicted to bananas and this recipe is one of the best. Thanks Bianca xxx

Truly the best vegan chocolate banana bread! No fuss and quick and easy to make. The result: a decadent, moist, melt-in-the-mouth bite with the richness of chocolate and all the nutrition of bananas. I’m glad to have switched over to vegan baking! Kudos to Bianca ❤️
So glad you love this chocolate banana bread! 😊
Thank you so much for your amazing feedback!
Best,
Bianca ❤️
Best banana bread ever. I will always make like this. Who knew one could omit the eggs and sour cream? 🤷🏼♀️ I substituted flax for the cornstarch (using half of cornstarch stated), as I was out of cornstarch, and I’m not missing it. Really moist, quite lovely. Thank you.
So glad you love my vegan banana bread! Thank you so much for your feedback! 😍
Did you make a peanut butter glaze as a topping for your photos? Is there a recipe for the glaze/icing? Definitely making these ASAP!
It’s just melted creamy peanut butter! 😃
I just made this and I’m definitely adding it to my favorites!!! So good and so easy!!! I did 1cup all purpose and 1/3 cup whole wheat flour – just because I wanted to use up my remaining ww flour. I also subbed the oil for applesauce because I avoid oils. It was still perfectly moist and fluffy. Not dense and gummy at all like can happen with some vegan cakes. Next time I think I will try cutting the sugar in half as well and maybe even sub the apple cider vinegar for chocolate balsamic. I’m so happy I found this recipe! Thank you!!
So glad you love this recipe! Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! 😊
Tried this recipe a few days ago and absolutely loved how it came out! The banana chocolate flavor was amazing, and the chocolate chips were the perfect topping. The recipe was so easy to follow, and it’s vegan too! Highly recommend 🙂
So glad you love this recipe! Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! 😊
So in love 😍 this is probably the best banana bread in the world! My family and friends (all non-vegan) loved it too ! ❤️
Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! ❤️

So glad you love this recipe! Yes, sure you can add peanut butter! Thank you so much! ❤️
Hello Bianca,
I would like to use this recipe to make muffins that I can share with a few friends – would that work!? If so, any suggestion on baking time?
Thank you for your help! The recipe looks delicious!
Hi Ashley, muffins take around 25 minutes. I highly recommend testing it with a skewer after 20 minutes to avoid overvaluing (
Have fun trying! ❤️
Baked the muffins for about 24 minutes and they were perfect! Thanks for the tasty recipe!

So glad your mom love this recipe, too! Thank you so much 😊
Such a great recipe!!!!! My family and I loved it! Perfect amount of sweetness with the combination of the banana and chocolate! Thanks for posting this great recipe:)
So glad your family enjoyed it, too! Thank you so much for your feedback! ❤️
I was ready to try a new recipe today and decided this was it! I am so glad! I’ve never made a gluten free banana bread but decided to give it a shot (I had a 1:1 mix in hand that I wanted to try)
The bread turned out super delicious, moist and satisfying without being overly rich or sweet. The whole family loved it ! Topped with vegan chocolate chunks for an extra chocolatey touch. I’ve already shared the recipe with all of my friends and I’m looking forward to trying more of your recipes!
I honestly thought they would be tougher, given your beautiful photos! This was super easy! Thank you!
So glad you love this banana bread recipe and my photos! Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! 🙂
This recipe is AMAZING! My non-vegan family loved it and I could not stop eating it all day! The batter came out thicker than I expected and it took exactly 40 mins to bake, but it turned out beautifully! Moist, rich, super flavorful, and the best part is that it is so easy to make! I highly recommend this recipe!
Thank you so much! So glad you love my banana bread! 🙂
Bianca meant every word she said! Such a quick and easy recipe. My first ever vegan cake and I am really impressed. So moist and full of flavour. I can’t waig to try some more recipes.

Hi I have tried this Recipe.. And let me tell you it’s the best Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread. I made it yesterday and my family just enjoyed it. It was a hit in the very first attempt. Just delicious, decadent and pillowy soft texture. Bianca you’re the Bestest. Thank you so much for this lovely recipe. 🧡😘🤟🏻
So glad you love my recipe so much! Thank you for your amazing feedback! Lots of love to you! 🙂
This looks fantastic. Going to make it for a friend for her birthday. What type of cocoa powder did you use? Natural, Dutch process etc?
Thanks!
I have the same question. I*think*, because Dutched-style cocoa powder does not react well with baking soda, the recipe must call for natural cocoa powder. But would also like that to be clarified. Thanks!
Yes, you’re absolutely right! This recipe calls for natural cocoa powder! 😊
Hi Jenna, I use natural cocoa powder! 😊
If I’m using small bananas how many should I use?
You can use about 1 cup mashed bananas! 🙂
This was the most amazingly moist, fluffy, decadently tasting cake I’ve ever had……yes really! So easy to make and very cost effective. As it was Easter, I waited until it was cool then poured over a small bar of melted sugar-free/dairy free chocolate and then placed a few walnuts on top. It was absolutely delicious and a fantastic way of using up my overripe bananas. Making this would be a great way to keep your kiddies entertained too whilst home-schooling etc. lots of practical maths in weighing and measuring ingredients. Kids regardless of age love cooking/baking so give it a go,,,,,,,,it’s win win all round. Thanks Bianca
So glad you love this banana bread! Thank you so much! 🙂
The best chocolate banana bread ever! I try this for the first time and I love it!!! Easy and quick to make, very good, taste soooooo sweet and soooooo delicious this my new “Must try”!!! Love love loooooooovee this recipe!
Wow, thank you so much! 🙂
Hi Bianca,
The recipe looks super amazing. I wanted to know that I don’t have cornstarch and Apple Cider Vinegar ( I have regular Vinegar). Is it okay to omit these two ?
Yes, sure! 🙂
Super yummy! Very moist and sweet. I added walnuts and chocolate chips to the mix and it was really yummy. 100% recommend.
Thank you so much! So glad you love it!
So decadent and delicious.
Thank you 😉
My absolute favourite banana bread, it is the most delicious treat. It’s so simple to make, just be careful because it’s almost impossible to have just one slice.
So glad you love it so much! Thank you 🙂
Hi! Great recipe! Bread is moist, essecional, so so delicious 🙂 I don’t know what is better – the simple, easy recipe or the best chocolate taste of it! 🍌🍫💛
Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! 🙂
Soooooooo good! Gone in less than 24 hours!
So glad you love this! 🙂
Today is my birthday and with being stuck at home I find that I have everything to make this and from the comments I’ve read it’s sure to be yummy! I am curious though, what did you drizzle on top of it? Is it peanut butter or something similar?
melted creamy peanut butter, put in the microwave for few a seconds. She says in a comment quite far down, i was keen to find out too.
This is just melted creamy peanut butter on top! Thank you so much! I hope you’ll enjoy my recipes! Happy birthday to you! 🙂
Love this recipe! This absolutely is the best chocolate banana bread! The flavour is amazing. I’m not the best baker but both times I’ve made it, it’s turned out so good! Everyone that has tasted it thinks it’s delicious. Thanks for a great recipe 😊

Soo good and the dough is soo fluffy. Love it!
Thank you! 🙂
Very delicious recipe- moist and chocolatey!! I will definitely make this again. Thanks for sharing! 💞
Thank you so much! 🙂
Amazing recipe! This is the first time
I’ve made a banana bread that didn’t turn out kind of “dense”. On the contrary, it was really fluffy and delicious! I’ll definitely bake it again 🙂
So glad you love it! Thank you so much 🙂
This cake is really good, tasty, moist! Recipe recommended.
So glad you love this recipe! Thank you so much 🙂
Loved LOVED this recipe! Turned out so good! It’s moist and chocolatey, just the way I like it💕
Thank you 🙂
This bread is very good and very easy! It’s a fluffy and a subtlety sweet banana bread. I’ve already shared this link with several friends. I mention that I made it and I get “oooo that sounds good!” I send the link immediately! I made the first loaf following the recipe and it was done in about 45 mins. I didn’t believe it so I left it in a little longer and it was then a little too dry so really watch that. The next two loaves I made with unsweetened applesauce instead of oil and I found that they needed about 50 mins. They were perfect! I can’t wait to try more of your recipes!
Hi Bri, thank you so much for your amazing feedback! Hope you’ll love my other recipes, too! 🙂
Uno dei migliori dolci che ho fatto, sano, buonissimo e naturale!!! Sto continuando a rifare questa ricetta, la adoro!
❤️❤️❤️
I just loved this recipe!
I did not put as much sugar because I dont like sweet things that much, I added one carrot and left out the vinegar, which I did not have and it taste just delicious!
On the top I use the marmelade from passion fruit which makes it even more amazing!
Thank you, I will be recommending this to everyone.
Finally I found the recipe for perfect banana bread!
So glad you love this recipe! Thank you so much 🙂
Wow. I’ve already tried a thousand banana bread recipes and yet I never found one where I had that ‘aaah-uuuh’ – effect after trying which made me bake it again. Now I found your recipe that even caused my mother to have that reaction – who certainly is not a banana bread lover.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You are doing a great job at creating recipes.
Xoxo, Anna
So glad your mom loved this recipe so much, too! Thank you for your amazing feedback! 🙂
I’m always happy to inspire people with my recipes 🙂
Sooo lecker und schnell gebacken!!! Vegan kann so einfach sein!! 🙂 vielen Dank dafür!! 🙂
Das freut mich sehr! Danke 🙂
I have not tried this yet, but it looks amazing and loving all the positive comments. Before I make this, we follow a Whole Food Plant-Based diet plan. Oil in recipes is not allowed. Has anyone made this with a substitute for the oil such as unsweetened applesauce or baby puréed prunes? Thank you.
Hi Suzanne, you can make this recipe oil-free by using unsweetened applesauce or more banana but this will change the texture. Let me know how you liked it! 😉
Best banana cake recipe, I tried this for the first time and I loved it. So did my family. Very easy to make. Thank you dear Bianca.
So glad you love this banana bread! Thank you so much! 🙂
I’ve made this twice in the last two weeks and it’s delicious! The first time I halved the recipe as I had one very ripe banana and it turned out great! It’s the perfect ratio of chocolate and banana and the texture is moist and wonderfully crumbly. The recipe is simple and easy to follow and I love that “jump to recipe” button at the top of the blog. The only change I make to the recipe is to use half vanilla extract / half almond extract which I think goes great with the chocolate and the banana. Will be making this often!
So glad you love this vegan banana bread! Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! 🙂
3rd time I made this recipe with some walnuts on top and it always turns out delicious. Made for a colleague who is not even vegan but after she tried it she wanted me to make another one for her 🙂
Thank you very much for sharing the recipe with us 😻
Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! So glad that you love this banana bread! 🙂

Totally obsessed and definitely going to make it again ✨ Highly recommend everybody who loves chocolate to try it out 🤪
So glad you love this chocolate banana bread! Thanks for your kind comment! 🙂
This is honestly the best banana bread I have ever made! Its so simple and was a hit with the family. We loved it so much, I made it a 2nd time as soon as we finished the first. First batch we made with almond flour, came out nice and dense and was like brownie batter….yum! This time I used flour and it is definitely more like bread but just as good.
So glad you love this recipe! Thanks for your amazing feedback and for sharing your experiences! 🙂
One of the most delicious banana bread ever. I made it and it becomes really tasty! Definitely I will make it again.

Absolutely relish! I will be baking again.
Delish! Not relish. Damn you autocorrect 🙂
Don’t worry! 😀
Thank you! 🙂
This is so yummy! Quick question though, do you have a recipe for the peanut sauce?
Hi Amy, so glad you loved this chocolate banana bread! The peanut sauce is just melted creamy peanut butter 😀 I put it into the microwave for a few seconds until liquid 🙂
Just made this and it was AH-amazing! Everyone gobbled it up and no one realized it was banana bread. Not that they don’t like banana bread but my kids are a bit over the traditional kind.
Hi Amanda, so glad you like this vegan banana bread so much! Thank you for your amazing feedback! Lots of love, Bianca <3
I have made this many times, it’s my favorite recipe! Really is THE best. This time I used a smaller bread pan so I would have enough batter to make 2 donuts 😉 ….just had to!
Hi there, so glad to read that this vegan chocolate banana bread recipe is your favorite! Thank you for sharing the idea to make donuts with leftover batter! 🙂 Lots of love, Bianca <3

Best banana bread ever 🙂
Thank you so much! 🙂
If I want to make this in a Bundt pan I think I need to increase the ingredients right?
Hi Joanna, this depends on the size of your bundt pan. If you have a large one, you’ll have to increase the ingredients.
I don’t usually like banana flavour cakes, but this one was incredibly tasty. I’ve baked it for 40 minutes, so it was super moist, like brownie. Instructions are really easy to follow. Will definitely bake it again. 🥰
Hi Renata, so glad you enjoyed this chocolate banana bread! Thank you for your feedback! 🙂
Made this recently and it was so easy and delicious! Definitely going to make it again!
Hi Katie, so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your feedback! 🙂
I was curious if you’ve ever made this recipe in a mini loaf tin? I’m not the greatest baker so I wouldn’t know the time difference for baking. Looks delicious!
Hi Dani, if using a mini loaf tin and less batter you may reduce the baking time or the banana bread will be too dry when it’s overbaked. I suggest testing with a skewer after 25 minutes. If the skewer comes out almost clean with a few moist crumbs attached, you can remove the loaf. Otherwise, bake it 10 minutes longer, then test again. Let me know how it turned out for you 🙂
I used gluten free flour (Bob’s red mill (blue)1-to-1) so I used 3 bananas for more moisture. Worked super well! I will definitely use more sugar next time, even with 3 bananas and 1/2 cup sugar it just wasn’t sweet.
Hi Abi, so glad you liked it! Thanks for letting me know that it worked well with gluten-free flour! I prefer making it a little less sweet so you can serve it with additional fresh bananas and a sweet spread or caramel drizzle! 🙂
Neues Lieblingsrezept!! Geht super schnell und schmeckt total schokoladig aber ist trotzdem nicht zuu süß. Ich liebe es!😻
Liebe Jana, das freut mich wirklich sehr zu hören! 🙂 Danke für dein Feedback! <3
I tried this recipe too and it was a success! I combined it with a frosting and my friends ate it all! I am curio Great one, thanks Bianca!
Hi Simona, so glad to hear that you liked this recipe! Thank you so much for your feedback! 🙂 <3
I tried this recipe and it was fantastic. I left out the sugar though as I wanted to do an eggless, spelt flour, sugar less cake and this worked perfectly. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
So happy to hear you enjoyed the banana bread! 🙂 Thank you so much for your feedback!
So I’ve tried many chocolate banana cake recipes and this one is by far the best. It’s so quick and super easy to make. Loved it and so did my family. I’ll be guarding this recipe like gold!
So happy to hear that and that you all enjoyed it! 🙂 Thank you so much!
I made this recipe yesterday and I really really love it ! Good way to use banana, made a chocolate cake AND show to reticent people vegan food is not eat grass 😅😂😂😂
Thanks so much Bianca for this recipe !
I will make it again 😉
Haha, I totally agree with you! 😀 So happy to hear that you loved this chocolate banana bread too! It’s so much better than grass, right? xD Thank you so much <3
I tried it this weekend and it was easy and so GOOD!!
I’ll try it with cinnamon 😉
So happy about that! Thank you 🙂 Will try it with cinnamon too! Thanks for the idea 😀
I made this for the second time with Pisang GAROHO from Indonesia.. I love this recipe very much. As instead of apple cedar vinegar I use lime juice for the banana. It’s yummy … Thanks Bianca..
So happy that you liked the recipe too 🙂 Thank you <3
Yum! I found this on pinterest and started making it without checking the comments (I usually do to see what people write about what they added extra or didn’t add), but I didn’t need to read them…it came out so great exactly the way you have it. Thank you!
So happy that you liked it too 🙂 Thank you so much!
Hi Bianca, thanks so much for the recipe. I thought it tasted delicious but mine came out dry.
I used oat milk and Bobredsmill gluten free flour. I baked it for 40 mins at 350.
I would appreciate anyone’s feedback on how to make it moist. Thanks
Hi Lilou, this banana bread recipe is actually a bit dry since it’s rather a healthy whole-grain loaf. If you want it more “cake-like” you should try my chocolate banana bread recipe. You can easily sub the cocoa powder for regular flour.
Vielen Dank, liebe Marie! Es freut mich immer, wenn es schmeckt 🙂 Es ist nicht die Bearbeitung, das Licht und Kamera 🙂
You. Guys. I made this yesterday gluten free and it turned out AMAZING. Super delicious and flavorful and moist. Best of all, it was SO EASY. A lot of times I find vegan baking to be overly complicated or includes weird products you’ll never use again. I had everything for this in my pantry already. My mom and sister have allergies to gluten and dairy. Can’t wait to try more recipes!
Thank you so much for your feedback! So happy that you liked my banana bread in the gluten-free version too! Hope you’ll also like the other recipes you’re going to try 🙂
Wow, made this today and it was amazing. Entire family enjoyed it. Loved that is was so easy to make.
Question, what kind of glaze is that shown on the pictures?
Thanks for sharing your recipe. Will definitely be making this again.
So glad that you liked my banana bread recipe too! Thank you 🙂 The “glaze” is just melted creamy peanut butter 😀
Can I use whole wheat flour? Would I need more milk or more oil?
Hi Vanessa, I’ve mentioned that in the recipe notes. If using whole wheat flour it won’t get so fluffy and cake-like as pictured. If the batter seems very thick you can add a little more milk.
I’m a chocoholic and I’m always looking for healthier ways to get my fix. This recipe was perfect! If you bake often, you probably have all the ingredients already. I used dark chocolate cocoa powder and dark chocolate chips. 40 minutes later…chocolaty goodness. Thanks, Bianca!
So happy about that! I’m chocoholic too, haha! 😀 So I know what you mean. Thank you so much 🙂
This recipe is could not be easier and is SO delicious. The chocolate chips on top are a MUST. This recipe will definitely be added into my rotation!
Thank you so much! 🙂
Hey Bianca!
I have to tell you, the cake came out perfectly. Actually, I wanted to do something chocolatey, had some ripe bananas in my fridge so I gave it a try. I modified a little bit your recipe and added a little bit of coffee to enhance flavor and it tourned out great! Very moist and gooey. On the top, I added a salted caramel layer. Even though it was supposed to be a chocolate banana bread, mine went out more like a fudgy brownie. But I mean, the best brownie I ever did! 😀
Thank you!
I LOVE that idea to add a caramel layer into this banana bread! I will definitely try this too 😀 Thank you so much for the suggestion! 🙂 You can never go wrong with a fudgy brownie banana bread, right? 😀 So happy that you liked the recipe <3
I really suck at baking and usually my cakes never turn out that great but this recipe is just awesome. I make it nearly every week and it always turns out perfect! It is simple to make and tastes sooo good. I’ve been asked for the recipe several times already. Thanks Bianca for creating this perfect recipe <3
So happy to hear that! Thank you so much! It’s also one of my favorite and best vegan recipes and I love making it again and again 🙂
Okay, so, I must admit. The first time I made this recipe I didn’t like it that much. It came out too bitter. But yesterday I decided to remake it and Oh. En. G! I cannot tell you how amazing this recipe is. I stuffed it with extra chocolate chunks. Brought a piece for my best friend who ate it with her boyfriend and both loved it. This will be my go to recipe. Also, so so easy to make. Safe to say, I’ll be making it more often. Thank you for coming out with this recipe.
Thank you so much! So happy that you liked this vegan banana bread too! Maybe you used another type of chocolate or cocoa powder? I found out that some brands taste very bitter for any reason. You should definitely check out which kind of cocoa powder you like best for this chocolate treat! 😀
That’s what I thought. But I’ll bake another batch tomorrow to take to my sister who just had a baby and who is a chocoholic. I love it so much!
So happy about that! And congrats to your sister for her cute baby! Chocolate is always perfect, right? 😀 Thank you 🙂
Thank you :). The house is smelling amazing. Plus I printed out the recipe for a colleague because I love it so much and want more people to see that vegan foods are amazing, and that you don’t need dairy and eggs to make delicious baked good. Thank you for creating it 🙂
So glad to read that! Thank you so much! 🙂 And I totally agree with you. There are so many delicious recipes you can make vegan without using any dairy ingredients, and this banana bread is also one of these yummy treats! Lots of love to you <3
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS!!! So quick and easy! Perfect for that chocolate craving but not as much guilt 😉 also, made it for my family and they were obsessed the bread didn’t stand a chance, less than 2 days and it was gone!
Thank you so much! So happy that you liked this “healthier chocolate cake” recipe too 😀
I made this recipe with lactose free milk and it was absolutely delicious!
So glad you liked it! Thank you 🙂
I made this yesterday and it is easy to make (no handheld blender needed) AND so delicious. I added chocolate chips and shredded coconut inside the batter and it was great! For the topping, I used golden raisins and some almond pieces. All these things were just lying around the pantry. All turned out great! I gave a loaf to my friends and now I’m she-ro of the weekend. Thanks for this recipe!
Hi Isabel, I totally love that you get creative with the topping! So glad you liked this banana bread! Thank you 🙂
the banana bread recipe is so easy to make and it is delicious! i’ve done it twice in too days because my family loved it !
Thank you so much! So glad that you liked it too! You can never go wrong with a yummy vegan banana bread, right? 🙂
I had been struggling to find good vegan recipes for baking but you are god send Bianca! Thanks for this very easy to follow and bake recipe.
So glad that you liked it! Thank you 🙂
Is the cornstarch 100% necessary? If so, is there a substitute? 😀
You can sub regular flour too 🙂
Made a double batch by accident, but it was still gone within a couple days. It was super fluffy and moist and tasted incredible!!
A double batch is better than having too less, right? 😀 So glad you liked it! Thank you 🙂
I just made this and it was delicious! I substituted the oil for applesauce and the flour for chickpea flour. It’s seriously the best vegan/gluten free banana bread I’ve ever made. Thank you for sharing this!
So happy about that! Thank you so much! 🙂
Loved it so much!
Thank you 🙂
#lieblingsbananenbrot 😋
Das freut mich! Vielen Dank für dein Feedback 🙂 <3
I had to use up my very ripe bananas and didn’t want to make banana muffins, so I opted for your lovely looking bread instead. It is so good! Next time I will swap applesauce for the oil. Thanks for the recipe!
So glad you liked it! Thank you 🙂
This ia really amazing and so easy to make recipe of chocolate cake! I am really enjoy it! Absolutely good texture, unbelievable taste of choco! I in love of this banana bread! Thank you so much!
I’m happy that you liked it! Thank you 🙂
The recipe is quick and easy and the cake very delicious!
I also tried it with peanut butter, and it’s so yummy!
Thank you so much for the recipe, Bianca! 💞
OMG, I love peanut butter! Sounds so good to me! So glad that you liked it 🙂 Thank you so much <3
Amazing! I’m running a small B&B and have vegan/gluten free guests so I put this together to serve at breakfast. I was a little skeptical when pouring the batter into the tin but I suppose the unique consistency is due to lack of eggs. It looks and tastes good and the entire house smelled incredible when it came out of the oven. The only tweak I made was adding 1tsp of Xantham gum to the flour and a spoonful of applesauce to the wet mix (because the bananas I had were small). Delighted when the toothpick came out clean at the 45 min mark (for people with fan ovens: bake at 155°C)
Thanks so much for an amazing recipe Bianca!
This sounds super good to me! Thank you so much for your feedback! Happy to hear that you liked it 🙂
Hi, what would be the measurement of milk if I wanted to use regular dairy milk?
It’s the same measurement 🙂
Hello! I made 2 cakes and I brought it to work! Everyone absolutely loved it. The best that I have baked so far. I used a 18cm spring form cake tin.
Also, I thinking of make it like a sandwich but I don’t know what kind of filling to use. What do you think?
Sounds great! So happy about that 🙂
Maybe you could layer it with chocolate mousse and raspberry filling? You can find the recipe in this post:
https://biancazapatka.com/en/chocolate-raspberry-cake/
Let me know how it goes 😉
Yummy!
Thank you!
Such a great recipe! It’s so quick to mix and the consistency is amazing for pouring into the tin. Of course it tastes delicious too!
So glad that you liked it! Thank you! ?

What a lovely recipe. Yesterday i made it, added some extra coconut sprinkles. It’s so moist! I shared it today with my colleagues and they were super amazed by it. And the fact that its vegan was very suprizing for them. And i love that! ❤️
So glad that you liked it! Thank you so much! ?
Looks delicious i want to try it.
What can i substitute for apple cider vinegar. ?Or can i use regular vinegar instead?
You can use lemon juice or regular vinegar. Hope you’ll like it 🙂
Delicious and versatile! I ended up making several substitutions, and it still turned out beautifully. I don’t bake that often anymore, but I would make this again. Pictures of my loaf can be found on my IG by searching #adventuresofafoodie.
So glad that you liked it! ? Thank you! <3
Richtig leicht zu machen und super lecker!!!
Das freut mich so sehr zu hören! ?
Vielen lieben Dank,
Bianca <3
Just love this receipe- always a winner! It’s moist and deli and simply super yum! I’m not using oil, but rather nut butter & dates instead, and like to mix approx. 120g spelt flour & 50g whole rain spelt flour with some 50g of fine oats plus 20g of grounded nuts, which works just perfectly! Using this receipe almost every week (huge banana bread addiction, heyo :D), and always try twisting it up. Yesterday I added peanut butter, chopped peanuts and hazelnuts <3. The only challenge you might be experiencing is you can't stop eating ;). So make sure there are always some ripe bananas around (=
Thanks, Bianca, for your daily inspiration! You're a gem!
So glad that you like this banana bread so much! Will definitely try your version too! Sounds so good to me 🙂
Thank you for your feedback!
Lots of love,
Bianca <3
I made this yummy chocolate banana bread yesterday and absolutely loved it. It was so fluffy and chocolatey. Barely was able to stop myself from eating it all at once 😀 I substituted the oil for 60 g of coconut yoghurt for an oil free bread and it worked like a charm. Thanks for this great recipe, will try more of your stuff!!
So glad to read this! 😀 Thank you for your feedback and have fun trying more! ?
The cake looks delicious, what’s the sauce you use, is it just smooth peanut butter?
Yes, it’s just melted smooth peanut butter 😀
I’ve eaten a lot of banana bread in my life but this was the best by far. Whole family demolished a loaf in one go. Super easy to make, will make this one again and again.
So glad to read this! Thank you 🙂
I made it yesterday to bring it at my friend’s house and it was delicious, it had a great consistency and wow I’d definitely recommend it!

My first ever vegan cake and it was delicious! Thanks for the recipe :))))
So happy to read that <3 Thank you!?
I like your account very much! For this receipt, could you please post some photoa with the texture before baking? This way we will see the texture in case we use another flour 🙂 Thank you!!!!
Oh yes, sure. That’s a great idea. I will do it next time 🙂 The texture should be thick and creamy. Thank you!
Bianca, if I wanted to use oat flour, would I increase my almond milk to 1/2cup?
I’m not sure how much additional milk you’ll need but I think 1/2 cup sounds good!
First time making chocolate banana bread of any kind, this vegan version is AMAAAZING!! So delicious, not overly sweet and the recipe is easy to follow, THANK YOU!!
So happy that you liked it too! ? Thank you for your feedback! <3
